From Weekend Wins to a Data-Driven Content Strategy: How beMarketing Grew Engagement for FC Delco
Introduction
FC Delco has been developing elite youth soccer talent since 1982, with a track record that includes ECNL championships, Division I commitments, and a roster of teams competing at the highest levels of the sport in the country. With dozens of teams, tournaments, and milestones happening every single week, the club needed a social media presence that could keep up, one that didn’t just document the club’s success, but actively built its brand and community engagement.
beMarketing partnered with FC Delco to manage its organic social media presence across Instagram, Facebook, and X. Rather than treating social media as a simple content calendar, our team conducted a full performance audit of the club’s channels to identify exactly what was driving engagement and what wasn’t, then rebuilt the content strategy around the data.
Challenge
Like many club and organization accounts, FC Delco’s social channels were active and consistent. In a single month, the team published 90 posts across three platforms covering tournament results, championship wins, player recognitions, college commitments, camp promotions, and sponsor initiatives. The volume of content was strong, but volume alone doesn’t guarantee growth.
The real challenge was one of precision: which posts were genuinely building the brand and community, and which were simply adding to the noise? Without a clear read on performance by platform, timing, and content type, the club risked spending equal effort on high-impact and low-impact content alike, diluting its reach and making it harder to scale what was actually working.
A few specific issues stood out once we began digging into the data:
- Timing: Engagement was heavily concentrated in a narrow window of days and hours, meaning most content was being published outside the times when the audience was most active.
- Content Types: Certain content types, including sponsor asks and generic registration flyers, were consistently underperforming, pulling engagement rates below 1%.
- Platform Discrepancies: Identical content posted across platforms was performing wildly differently, with one platform meaningfully outperforming the other for the same posts.
- Audience Fatigue: Posting several similar recap posts back-to-back in the same window appeared to fatigue the audience, reducing engagement on later posts in the sequence.
Solutions
To address these challenges, beMarketing conducted a full post-performance and profile analysis covering every published post across Instagram, Facebook, and X for the reporting period, benchmarking engagement rate, reach, views, and audience activity patterns post by post.
The audit surfaced a clear pattern: content recapping tournament wins and championships, published on Facebook during Sunday evening hours, dramatically outperformed every other content type and platform combination in the account, by a factor of five to nine times. Posts that named specific teams, coaches, and results by name consistently beat generic team photos and templated graphics. Meanwhile, sponsor pitches and registration flyers posted to the organic feed underperformed the account average significantly
Using these findings, we rebuilt FC Delco’s content strategy around four core changes:
- Retimed publishing so that high-value content, like tournament recaps and championship announcements, was concentrated in the Sunday evening and Friday midday windows where engagement was strongest.
- Elevated Facebook as the primary platform for achievement-driven content, while repositioning Instagram for reach and storytelling rather than duplicate posting.
- Paced same-day content so that recap posts were spread across several days instead of stacked in a single evening, preserving novelty and audience attention.
- Reworked lower-performing content categories, moving sponsor and registration messaging off the main organic feed and reformatting college commitment posts with more team-specific storytelling to drive stronger community engagement.
Results
The data-driven overhaul of FC Delco’s content strategy identified clear, measurable opportunities for growth across the club’s social channels.
Engagement Rate Performance
- Top-performing tournament recap posts achieved engagement rates as high as 9.5%, more than nine times the account’s baseline for standard content.
- Facebook content outperformed identical Instagram posts by four to eight times in engagement rate.
- Sunday evening (5 to 10 p.m.) and Friday midday were identified as the two highest-engagement windows across the reporting period.
Content Performance Insights
- The single highest-volume engagement post of the month was a league championship announcement, generating 670 engagements and reaching nearly 8,850 views.
- Sponsor and registration-focused posts consistently underperformed, generating engagement rates below 1%, compared to a 5%+ average for tournament and achievement content.
- Posts naming specific teams, coaches, and tournament results by name consistently outperformed generic team photos and templated promotional graphics.
Platform & Audience Insights
- Identified a clear content fatigue pattern, where stacking multiple similar posts in the same evening reduced engagement on later posts in the sequence.
- Established Facebook as the lead platform for achievement and community-driven content based on consistently stronger engagement performance.
- Built a repeatable framework for identifying high- and low-performing content categories to guide future content planning.
Conclusion
FC Delco needed more than a social media presence that simply kept up with a busy competitive calendar. The club needed a partner capable of turning that volume of content into a measurable, strategic growth engine.
Through a detailed performance audit and a content strategy rebuilt around real engagement data, beMarketing helped FC Delco identify exactly what was driving results across its social channels, and just as importantly, what wasn’t. The findings created a clear, repeatable playbook: the right content, on the right platform, at the right time.
Today, FC Delco is positioned with a data-backed social media strategy that amplifies its on-field success and strengthens its connection with the community of players, parents, and alumni who follow the club every week
