The Mid‑Year Marketing Reset: What’s Working (And What’s Not) in 2025

Here we are, halfway through 2025. How’s that marketing strategy treating you? Still running smoothly, or are you starting to feel a bit… stuck? 

If you, like most of us, are right in the thick of it, you might’ve noticed that some of the tricks you used last year aren’t holding up as well this time around. 

A mid-year reset might be just the thing you need to turn it around. Staying ahead means knowing what works now and what stopped working last week (that’s exactly what we do). 1. AI and Automation

AI? Still important. Automation? Even more so. Combining them – the right way – means you can open up an entirely new toolbox. Platforms like Google and Meta now build ads for you (but we’d still recommend having a human take a look). They’ll handle most of the hard work, like headlines and placement, so you can get your ads up and running faster than ever. 

Using AI as part of a strategy is smart, but don’t get too reliant on it. Even the smartest marketers have to find the balance between AI and human collaboration. Continually check the performance, tweak your targets, and keep a handle on the oversight.  

2. Brand Voice vs. Generic “Marketing” Voice

Everyone sounds the same today. Why is that? It’s actually a combination of things, but one of the easiest to point to is plain and simple FOMO. Marketers see one brand come up with a successful idea, and instead of deciding if that idea fits their voice, they just jump on the bandwagon and try it out. 

Combine this with the AI-generated content everyone’s pushing, and this muddies the water, dilutes your brand voice, and leads to confused and unengaged consumers. 

Not exactly the outcome you’re looking for. 

However, that also creates an opening. Now that so many brands sound alike, standing out is easier than ever. If you’re building campaigns with personality–one that fits your brand, not your competitors–you’re already ahead of the game. If not? Well, then it might be time to change tactics. 

In fact, one of the biggest 2025 marketing trends is doubling down on authenticity. That means marketing for humans, by humans. Make sure your content is written for people, not algorithms.

3. Content is Still King (If It’s Good)

You don’t need more content. You need better content. 

 

Churning out constant blog posts and posting just to post on social media is no longer a guaranteed way to raise your rankings. Actually, if what you’re turning out isn’t relevant, helpful, or new to your audience, it may end up hurting you. These days, a single, well-crafted piece of content can outperform a dozen half-baked ones. 

 

What does that mean for you? It means putting in the time and effort to do it right. Then, use current digital marketing trends to turn that well-crafted piece into more content. A really good blog can quickly become a social media post, an email, a video, and a podcast–all in one day. 

4. Social Search Is on the Rise

Search isn’t just for Google anymore! People are increasingly looking for reviews, products, and ideas on social media, partially thanks to one of the strongest digital marketing trends we’ve seen: UGC (user-generated content.) The Digital Marketing Institute called this a major shift in their 2025 trends report.

That means:

  • Captions with keywords
  • Using searchable, plain-language phrases
  • Tagging locations, categories, and interests 

In other words, put some SEO thought into your social media. It’s basically a search engine now.

5. Short‑Form, Mobile‑First Storytelling

Mobile-first isn’t new, but mobile-first storytelling is. Snackable formats and interactive posts are stealing the spotlight and your audience’s attention. And brands that are investing in those options are reaping the rewards. 

As 2025 marketing trends evolve, branded mini-series, quizzes, or AR filters are taking your FYP by storm with a goal to make marketing engaging, not just interesting. 

What’s to Avoid in 2025

  • Over-reliance on AI. AI isn’t your copywriter, designer, or video editor. It’s a tool, not the talent.
  • Ignoring content control. Messaging drift destroys trust as fast as controlled campaigns build it. Don’t make more work for yourself.
  • Treating social shortcuts as a strategy. Posting is easy. Strategizing for search, audience, and intent takes actual work.
