Any successful SEO strategy starts with keyword research. Decide which words/phrases you want your website to show up for on Google when searched. This is why basing your SEO strategy on the most relevant keywords is key. Here are three questions to ask yourself to figure out the keywords you want your website to rank for:

  1. Does my website fit the criteria for people searching this word/phrase?
  2. Will people be happy when directed to my page after searching this word/phrase?
  3. Will I benefit from the traffic driven to my website from this word/phrase?

Revamp Your Website with Your Keywords in Mind

Now that you’ve decided on the keywords you want your site to rank for, it’s important to design your website accordingly. With the goal of outranking your competitors in mind, you’re going to want to make sure your keywords appear in you site’s alt-tags, headers, meta tags, titles and URLs. Just keep in mind that utilizing them in organic ways is more beneficial than forcing them.

Keep Your Site’s Load Time to Three Seconds or Less

Because slow page speeds can cause high bounce rates, your webpage loading speed can have a huge impact on SEO strategies. To achieve a load speed that’s three seconds or less, you may want to consider removing any multimedia, plugins or widgets that aren’t benefiting your website. Another way to increase load speed is by minimizing CSS, HTML and JavaScript files that are bigger than 150 bytes. Still experiencing slow page loads? Try upgrading your website host, utilizing a CDN, allowing browser caching and minimizing HTTP requests.

Incorporate More Internal Links

An easy way to improve your SEO strategy is to add more internal links to your website’s pages—simply link the page you want to improve the ranking for on one of your other pages. Because more website pages means more internal link opportunities, creating a blog—and posting regularly—can be a great way to increase your internal links.
